Igniting curiosity & life-long learners

Every parent wants to find a school where their child is encouraged to reach their full academic potential. We believe every child should have opportunities to discover things that awaken their curiosity and set them buzzing to learn more.

At OCS, we recognise that children learn at their own pace. We take the time to identify your child’s unique abilities, and we tailor our teaching accordingly. We encourage kids to try new things and we celebrate every effort along the way.

Switching children on to learning

In Prep, our goals are to build independence, develop language, literacy and numeracy skills, and hone fine and gross motor skills in each student. Aligned with the Australian Government’s Early Years Learning Framework, Prep runs a project-based learning and development program that extends on each child’s interests, skills and needs.

Developing study skills and a growth mindset

In Primary School, we focus on Literacy and Numeracy as the initial building blocks of all learning. Alongside PDHPE, Science & Technology, History, Geography and Visual Arts, we offer musical opportunities in our strings, choir and band programs. Digital literacy is established with simple coding, programming and game creation. Learning also happens outside in our school gardens, competitive sports and STEAM programs.

Many Primary School students are involved in our Band program and learn to play an instrument, as well as studying Technology and learning Auslan (Australian Sign Language). Our focus is to help students become independent learners so they can take the next steps in their education.

Real-world learning opportunities

Alongside our broad subject offering and Distance Learning opportunities, Stage 5 and Stage 6 students take part in our Mentor Program, where they can thrive in their special interest area and develop a project, paired with a professional in that field. With the HSC and ATAR in mind, we also offer Vocational Education & Training for Stage 5 and Stage 6 so students can work towards a nationally recognised qualification as part of their HSC. Some subjects are offered as a compressed HSC course, allowing students to complete an HSC subject prior to Year 12.

The Academic Growth Centre

We established the Academic Growth Centre (AGC) so that every child has the chance to flourish in their learning. Specialist Learning Support Teachers and experienced teacher aides work closely with students and their classroom teachers to make adjustments in the classroom, whether a student needs support or extension.
